Dirty and alone

Coming back from Cuba, Colombia seems like a different country. I don’t know if it is me that has changed or if it is the country that has changed. Staying at the same hotel that I left 2,5 weeks ago, everything around me is familiar, but most things that I left, seem to have changed. (more…)

A brief glance at Cuba

Our two weeks in Cuba brought us through a great variety of impressions. From the nice encounters of humans and nature, through spontanious and surprising events to the dark side of this somewhat mysterious island. Despite the unpleasant experiences described in previous post, there were several memorable experiences in Cuba. (more…)

Lessons learned

Cuba is a Country full of contradictions and opposites. Cuba is a country with a lot of greedy people and every kind of mild criminals and hustlers. Cuba is a country where I spent a lot of time searching for most things, and luckily, I found Trond at last. Cuba is a country where the adrenaline has been rushing through my body - but unfortunately not in the good way. (more…)

Hide and seek in Cuba

Hide and seek in Cuba Ever since 4th grade, I have wanted to go to Cuba. When a friend in my class came back from a vacation, he told us stories about what they had seen. He told stories about places he went to, sights he saw and smells he discovered. He told stories about about a country where they have sugarcanes. Ever since I heard about his stories, I have wanted to see sugarcanes. (more…)

Colonial times once more

A statue of Maria Magdalena is solely protecting the harbor entrance of Cartagena. A massive wall surrounds the old part of the city, containing colonial buildings in every color of the rainbow. Cartagena is definately a different experience than all the other towns. It is inviting and seems happy - even if the dark forces are present. (more…)

Colombia, at last

After 19 hours of travel, Colombia finally revealed some of its mystery to me. Speedbumps are a regular encounter on South American roads and they do not seem to have an apparent function, other than slowing the traffic down - alot. Luckily, the bus from Mérida to Maracaibo, in Venezuela, was comfortable, with Air Conditioning and reclining seats - the rest of the trip, was a different story. (more…)

Cocooned

It is easy to spend money here in Mérida and it is easy to find people who wants your money. If you are after adventure and adrenaline, Mérida can deliver most activities. From rafting to climbing, from canyoning to paragliding. During the past couple of days, my experience in high altitudes have gotten bigger. Flying high over one of the best paragliding sites in the world was an amazing experience. Beeing pulled up the side of the mountain by a big cable to reach the final altitude of 4765 meters above sealevel made me realise, that Edmund Hillarys effort in 1953 was a truely heroic achievement. This and that

I have tasted the worst icecream in my whole life, I have made a grown man cry, I have a vague understanding of what surrounds me, there are drunk footballfans everywhere and it all has its own charm. Walking around in this culture of unfamiliarity with the music from home in my ear, creates this hallucinogenic state of mind where the eyes does not see what the ears hear. (more…)

Another life

There is always another life. (more…)

Perfect nature and hunting

Me holding my first AnacondaVenezuela is definately a wonderful country and the trip to "los llanos" absolutely gave sights I did not imagine. But I won’t remember the trip for holding my very first Anaconda, fishing for Piranas, hunting for Caymans, rafting or swimming with dolphins. I witnessed a hunt and a phenomenon I have only heard of before. (more…)
