It is easy to spend money here in Mérida and it is easy to find people who wants your money. If you are after adventure and adrenaline, Mérida can deliver most activities. From rafting to climbing, from canyoning to paragliding. During the past couple of days, my experience in high altitudes have gotten bigger. Flying high over one of the best paragliding sites in the world was an amazing experience. Beeing pulled up the side of the mountain by a big cable to reach the final altitude of 4765 meters above sealevel made me realise, that Edmund Hillarys effort in 1953 was a truely heroic achievement. I have tasted the worst icecream in my whole life, I have made a grown man cry, I have a vague understanding of what surrounds me, there are drunk footballfans everywhere and it all has its own charm. Walking around in this culture of unfamiliarity with the music from home in my ear, creates this hallucinogenic state of mind where the eyes does not see what the ears hear. (more…)

Venezuela is definately a wonderful country and the trip to "los llanos" absolutely gave sights I did not imagine. But I won’t remember the trip for holding my very first Anaconda, fishing for Piranas, hunting for Caymans, rafting or swimming with dolphins. There are 532 squares on the floor in my toilet (shower not included) and 200 tiles on the wall covering the same area. There are 3 types of insect grassing on the ceramic flatlands and they all seem very friendly. The showercurtain has 73 dots on it and hangs from 17 hooks. The door has three holes in it, and the water tank takes 5 minutes to fill up. The chain (counting 5 joints), that does the work of a lock, is not tight enough to close the door properly, leaving a small crack between door and wall. The door only fills 3/4 of the doorway. This is the uncovered and unleashed story of a backpackers best nightmare. Mount Humboldt … a majestetic summit surrounded by glaciers, fantastic scenery and a challenging approach. For an unexperienced mountaineer like me, this could have been a dream never to come true, but having the guides like they have here - the dream seemed so close. (more…)

Who would have thought I was such an easy target to fool? Who would have thought that I fell for the same “scam” in Venezuela, as I did in Thailand? Who would have thought, that my apperance is so touristy and that I am spotted as an easy target, the minute I walk outside the hotel? And who would have thought, that I looked like a criminal?
